If you are bothered by how your complexion looks because of dark spots or sun damage, Great Expectations Family Practice and Medispa can offer you a skin examination at our Lawton, OK office to determine if you qualify for intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. An IPL photofacial is a rejuvenating skin treatment for adults with hyperpigmentation concerns on their neck and face. A photofacial may not be an invasive procedure, but it can be highly effective and create amazing outcomes. Our expert team uses intense pulses of light that warm the skin just enough to start the natural regeneration process and boost collagen production. Over time, you should see a healthier complexion with a more even tone and fewer spots.

An IPL photofacial is done at our Lawton, OK office in around 20 – 30 minutes in one of our minor procedure rooms if no other treatments are performed. To start the process, the technician will wash and dry the skin to be treated before protecting your eyes with goggles. The IPL photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that passes over the skin while emitting light energy pulses. While most patients will feel some discomfort throughout the photofacial, it's generally bearable given the short treatment length.

Ideal Candidates

An IPL photofacial works the deeper layers of your skin to improve several complexion blemishes (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with little or no downtime. Candidates for IPL at Great Expectations Family Practice and Medispa will have a combination of issues with their complexion, including sun damage, rosacea, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, visible pores, flushing, melasma, age and sun spots, or dilated capillaries. Our highly skilled team will examine your skin to determine if you are a candidate for IPL during your initial consultation.

What to Expect

There is no recovery time needed with an IPL photofacial treatment. You may leave your appointment with your skin a little inflamed and red. This will decrease on its own as the day continues — it can be masked with makeup if you prefer. Great Expectations Family Practice and Medispa advises patients to use an ointment on the skin to decrease any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication to reduce swelling. Over the next 2 – 5 days, the irregularities that rested under the skin will come to the surface and then start to flake off. It is important to protect your skin with sunscreen as often as possible after a photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin. While you will have some results after your first treatment, your complexion will attain ideal results with multiple photofacial treatments. Our experts suggest approximately 3 – 6 treatments performed around once a month at Great Expectations Family Practice and Medispa.
